Be on the lookout during this initial climb as the hikers-only trail will cross paths with the downhill mountain biking trails. The Berry Picker Trail basically goes straight up Vail Mountain; therefore, it is not for the faint of heart trail and going down not for the faint of kneesl. I climbed over a few snow drifts and it did get a little muddy, but soon I could see the buildings at the top of the mountain and there were access roads to hike on. Once the trail diverged into the woods it was like a different world. These views rocked, but I longed to get on top of the mountains and get a sweeping panorama of white capped peaks.
Keystone ,the resort... {Besides, it’s free to ride the gondola downhill….!}. The Cabin Trail seems perhaps less iconic and not quite as visually pleasing as the nearby Berrypicker Trail, but it still features nice Gore Range views and abundant wildflowers.
These thoughts continued until Will turned around and realized I was a quarter mile behind him….oops! Spectacularly gorgeous.
I sailed down the mountain although it did take a toll on my knees. This was on a weekend in one of the busiest times of the year, so I am sure it is even less crowded during the week and on other non festival weekends.
