Many blogs focus on one aspect of backpacking, but I tackle both the outdoor adventure side and international exploration as well. I guess that’s because I’ve only spent time on trails in the Northeast (or South Africa and Thailand). Although my stay centered around the GoPro Mountain Games, I made a point to enjoy at least one hike, so I went on a Berry Picker Trail Vail adventure.

Having had a season pass for 11 years, and going there for 30 years, I can say with great confidence that Vail is, by far, the best ski resort in Colorado.

Be on the lookout during this initial climb as the hikers-only trail will cross paths with the downhill mountain biking trails. The Berry Picker Trail basically goes straight up Vail Mountain; therefore, it is not for the faint of heart trail and going down not for the faint of kneesl. It’s easy to avoid a collision if you’re cautious, but woe be the hiker who steps in front of an out-of-control biker! I passed a few tired people hoping to hear good news that the top was just around the corner. I’ll own it: I spend far less time in Vail than most people in Colorado. Not sure of the outcome...but you would need to be careful of the speed and your own ability. At the top of the mountain, we took several of the trails further up the mountain.

It does have good food.

I told one lady she had a mile to go and her face dropped. The kids just chose to have pizza and brownies...but were very happy with their selections.

Glad you enjoyed! But, the views of Vail valley are wonderful and you can stop to enjoy the views and the wildflowers.

A beautiful spot for the intermediate skier.

I climbed over a few snow drifts and it did get a little muddy, but soon I could see the buildings at the top of the mountain and there were access roads to hike on. Once the trail diverged into the woods it was like a different world. These views rocked, but I longed to get on top of the mountains and get a sweeping panorama of white capped peaks.

Keystone ,the resort... {Besides, it’s free to ride the gondola downhill….!}. The Cabin Trail seems perhaps less iconic and not quite as visually pleasing as the nearby Berrypicker Trail, but it still features nice Gore Range views and abundant wildflowers.

These thoughts continued until Will turned around and realized I was a quarter mile behind him….oops! Spectacularly gorgeous.

I sailed down the mountain although it did take a toll on my knees. This was on a weekend in one of the busiest times of the year, so I am sure it is even less crowded during the week and on other non festival weekends.

Hiking Berry Picker Trail Vail – Just about at the summit of Vail Mountain.

This is the version of our website addressed to speakers of English in the United States. Head up steeply through aspen groves and cross small streams, sometimes on bridges sometimes not. It was about a 40 minute ride and was a tame stroll along the mountain crest. The Berry Picker trail isn’t extreme; you’re not going to find absurdly steep climbs or death-defying scrambles. Vail and Colorado are pretty amazing winter or summer. There are two spurs beginning in Vail. Then, we came back down Ridge Route and that was a very pretty descent. I could have spent the rest of the day soaking in this sensational perspective, but I was on a time frame. And how fun for you guys to spend the time together and to just be outside – sometimes it’s about that simplicity and the life-giving element of being outdoors without the logistics of a big trip.

A few minutes later, I came around the corner to see her two kids clearly not having fun.

The photos are spectacular; I can see why you wanted to continue all the way to the top. While scanning the splendor of this vista, I stood in awe of one of Colorado’s 53 14,000 foot peaks or fourteeners as they call them here. The initial climb is the toughest of the day and your heart rate will get pumpin’ almost immediately. Berry Picker was perfect!

Look to the right of the gondola; you’ll see a bridge. People will always say that "this resort" or "that resort" are good for a specific reason, but for the all-around experience, Vail cannot be beat. It was a brilliant sunny day when I started. Gorgeous! Instead, we went for a run-hike combo!

The trail wasted no time in providing magnificent views.

. Thanks, it is hard to beat western Colorado when it comes to views. We drove up late Friday night and purposely avoided all of the planned activities on Saturday. And not terribly crowded.

The vegetation was a lush green and streams cascaded down the mountain.

Looks so magical!!
